Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

• This email lists free webmail addresses. Use of such addresses is typical for scams. Lotteries, banks and any but the smallest of companies do not normally use such addresses. Criminals use them to anonymously send and receive email at Internet cafes.

Thanks for your understanding and willingness to co-operate with me in this transaction. I hope you understand the content of my email offer. The sincere truth is that we require money to finalize the deal process.However, we have a financier whose contact in the USA is willing to give us a US check/money orders for the sum of US$5,000 to make up funds available to see the transaction through and have the principal funds(US$13.7M) transferred to your nominated bank account.

All I need from you is a 100% guarantee that you will send back the funds immediately you cash or clear the check/money orders, which is in US dollars. The funds will enable us finalize the deal process and have the principal funds released in your name and we shall make arrangement with you for further disbursement. It will be a perfect way to start up this transaction and prove our mutual sincerity.
