"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Greetings

Hello Dear,

This message should not surprise or embarrass you. My name is Michel Jean Elie Simon. I am the president of the Albert Gubay trustees on Charity fund donation. Albert Gubay is a 82-year-old British retail entrepreneur who made a "deal" with God several decades ago -- when he barely had enough capital to get his business ideas off the ground -- to share half his fortune with the Almighty in return for some divine help with his finances.

Five decades later, nearly all of his fortune is going into a trust, from which half of all the funds will be spent on projects connected to the Roman Catholic Church. The other half will be given to whomever the trustees deem appropriate. Gubay, a lifelong Catholic, will reportedly keep $15 million to tide him over during his old age.

Gubay is worth around $1.1 billion and ranked No. 880 in the Forbes 2010 list of the world's billionaires. He lives on the quiet British tax haven of the Isle of Man and has two children with his first wife.
