"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Ref: IMPORTANT Information about your unknown relative

Hello,

Ref: IMPORTANT Information about your unknown relative.

We manage certain personal affairs including financial portfolio of our late client who clearly shares your last name.He was a successful gold merchant.

You are contacted because according to the rule of intestacy, you emerged as the heir apparent to our late client; a descendent from the same ancestor (fourth degree of kindred) and we consider engaging you strongly in this very important matter. Hence, the rule of intestacy here consider consanguinity as a factor in deciding whether two individuals may be related or whether a given person inherits property when a deceased person has not left a will or a known next of kin. In that respect, you have been identified and chosen in order to assist us in our effort to reconcile you - his distant cousin to his estate.

Last week, we received a letter in respect of our late client's four boxes of natural gold nuggets (USD$60million worth) in Malaysia stating that he has a delinquent balance on his account for a significant length of time and auction has been scheduled to resolve his debt. However, we have taken necessary legal steps to temporary stop the auction and deemed it necessary to contact you immediately considering the value of the merchandize. We will be representing you in all legal proceedings regarding this claim and you will be guided accordingly. We will be glad to arrange a meeting with you in Malaysia in due time for physical inspection and claim of the merchandize.

As you probably have noticed, we intentionally left out certain information which we deemed proprietary at this point until we confirm that you are who we think you are. This is in compliance with standard requirements of the federal disclosure and privacy laws which prohibit lawyers from revealing certain privileged information until attorney-client relationship is fully established. To confirm that you are who we think you are, we humbly request that you provide us with full names (no initials please), date of birth, contact address, telephone and fax number, and your current occupation and it is important that you contact us immediately.

At the confirmation of your personal information at stated above, we will send you the contract agreement and concretize the administrative arrangement to process the claim in your names being the heir apparent whom we have chosen. Subsequently, we will arrange a meeting with you in Malaysia to inspect and claim the merchandize.

Important Note: we will need to enter into a contract with you since the work being undertaken is on an intestacy and our initial consultation is free but we will charge a contingency fee of 35% of the monetary value of the merchandize. Which means you will not pay us a cent unless we recover the boxes and sold the merchandize.
We need your courage and commitment to made this deal a success and together we can make it happen. If you have any question(s), do not hesitate to contact us.

Waiting for your response.

Sincerely,
Stephen Wei Cheng (Mr.)
