"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

An email address listed inside this email has been used in a known fraud before.
This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "a security company " (this will cost you money - be careful with upfront payments to anyone you only know through email, especially if they promise you a lot of money. - "power of attorney" (with your bank details and a power of attorney form criminals sometimes empty bank accounts)
- "liberia" (a location commonly mentioned in 419 scams)
This email message is a orphan scam.
Barristers (lawyers) mentioned in 419 scams are always fake.
This email lists free webmail addresses. Use of such addresses is typical for scams. Lotteries, banks and any but the smallest of companies do not normally use such addresses. Criminals use them to anonymously send and receive email at Internet cafes.

Hello Dad/Mum

I am Edward Swaray and the only surviving child of late Chief Jojo Swaray of Liberia who traded in gold and diamond before his assassination during the Liberia civil war. My Father, mother, and two brothers were assassinated and burnt beyond recognition by rebels after looting cash, diamonds and gold from my family.

I am contacting you in respect of the sum of $10,500.000.00 and 50kg of Alluvial Gold Dust deposited by my late father in a security company before he died. This treasure is part of what he realized from the sales of diamonds and gold. I got your contact from the Internet and having been convinced from your profile that you are capable of handling a transaction of this magnitude, I decided to entrust you with this great task.

My father told me and my elder brother JULIUS SWARAY (who died on the 17th of December 2015 due to poor medical attention resulting from my inability to buy prescribed drugs for him) about these deposits with this security company in Ghana before he died, and when we came to Ghana after his death we found the security company and I confirmed that the two boxes containing $10.5M and the 50kg of Alluvial Gold dust were still in their safe custody.

Due to our refugee status, we were not qualified to claim the deposits, in November last year we contacted one Mr. DUNCAN KOMENDA from London to help us in claiming two of the boxes that contained $10,500.000.00 and Gold dust so that he will send us $10,000.00 to enable us secure traveling documents to join him in the London and my late brother issued him a power of attorney for one of the two boxes which qualify him to claim the box, but when the first box was handed over to him, he disappear with the box and that is the last we heard of him. since we were now unable to travel to London to claim the boxes yet, the box containing the $10,500.000.00 and the Alluvial Gold Dust is still under the custody of the diplomat in London.

Note that my late father deposited the money and Gold with the security company as family treasures for safe keeping so the security company is unaware of the actual content of the boxes and also their officer in charge of this delivery there in London.

What I require of you to do for me now is your acceptance to this proposal and I will give you the contact number of the Diplomat with the box in London; so you can contact the Diplomat to claim the box(I beg for your utmost HONESTY assuring me that you will not betray me when the boxes is handed over to you.)
