"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Hello.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Compliments of the season. I am Mercy James the daughter of the late Minister of Finance of Liberia currently on exile in Cotonou, Benin Republic, because of the civil war in my country. I wish to invest in a country with political stability, reliable, dependable infrastructure and security of life and property.

My Father was murdered in cold blood by secret force of Charles Taylor the President of Liberia and the political assassins are still hunting to kill me and eliminate the entire members of my family because of my father's active rule in politics. After His death I and my mother left to Cotonou with valid documents in our possession pertaining to a family trunk box with an Insurance Value of US$18 Million which was deposited in a security company here Cotonou, Benin Republic but have now been moved to Europe through a Diplomatic Courier Service because of the granting of political Asylum to Charles Taylor by the Nigerian President. I gave the instruction for the moving of the consignment because Nigeria shares a common border with Cotonou, Benin Republic.

All this documents are currently in our possession and is bearing my name as next of kin. Therefore I am soliciting your assistance in the capacity as my Investment/Project Manager who will aid to claim the consignment. I am presently in Cotonou, Benin with my mother.

My father the late honorable Minister of Finance before his death also issued a diplomatic passport to me, which I will forward to you at your request. Upon response to this mail you will further be intimated on the transactional procedure. You will also need to send a letter of invitation to us after the luggage has successfully been delivered to you.

I am in anticipation of your urgent reply and hoping for a very successful business relationship with you. Please contact me only on this efax number: +15083746544 or reply only on this email address: mercyjames@gawab.com

Yours Sincerely,

Miss Mercy James.
