"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

From: Mrs. Cecilia Aku

Victoria Island Lagos - Nigeria.
Dearfriend,
Let me start by apologizing for perceived confusion or stress you may have
receiving this letter from me since we have not known ourselves or met previously.
Despite that, I am constrained to write you this letter because of the
urgency it requires. As a matter of fact, I got your contact through the
Internet and decided to write you immediately believing you will be of great
assistance to my kids and myself. My decision to contact you for possible
assistance which will be of mutual benefit is indeed personal. I am not
in doubt that you can be trusted in financial related matters of this magnitude.

I am Mrs. Cecilia Aku, the widow of the former Nigeria youth and sports
minister late Mark Ishaya Aku who died in a plane crash on the 4th of April
2002. My Kids and I are trapped in an obnoxious custom and traditional
rites of my late husband's family. We have suffered maltreatment and untold
hardship in the hands of my late husband's family, simple because I am not
from the same tribe with my late husband. His brothers have taken all that
I suffered with my husband to acquire including our luxurious cars, houses
and his bank accounts closed by them. I wanted to escape to the United
States of America (USA) with my children on exile, but again they conspired
and stole my international passport and other traveling documents to further
frustrate me.
Now my humble request. My husband while he was alive had a private company
and in collaboration with his foreign technical partner they executed a
contract for the sports ministry to the tune of $25m (Twenty-five Million
United states Dollars only). The contract was for the upgrading of Abuja,
Enugu and Lagos States National stadia in readiness for the 8th All African
Games (COJA) then billed for 2003 in Nigeria. The contract was duly executed
and approved payment was imminent when the cold hands of death struck my
husband. Since his death, all attempts I made to claim the money proved
abortive because some top sports ministry Government officials sat on the
payment, but thanks be to God, the present administration new sports minister
(Col. Mohammed Musa) has assured me and my late husband's lawyer (attorney)
that he is willing to help us fight for the payment only if we can bring
a reliable foreign partner to put forward claims for the payment. This
is why I need you and now solicit your assistance and co-operation in claiming
this approved fund. All the documents relating to the said contract are
with my late husbands lawyer whose name is Barrister Emeka F. Ngige and
his email address is emekafn@hotmail.com. Please kindly contact him for
him to give you all the necessary information relating to the contract and
how to move on and realize the approved funds. There is absolutely no risk
involved and the new sports minister has agreed to assist and facilitate
the payment.

So please get in touch with the lawyer immediately for he will be the one
to relate with you on the transaction to avoid suspicion from my late husband
brothers. Please note that this request for possible assistance is strictly
confidential and must not be disclosed to a third party. This is necessary
to avoid disclosure that may jeopardize the transaction.

Finally, if this proposal is acceptable to you, or if you have any questions,
feel free to contact my late husbands lawyer on his email address: emekafn@hotmail.com.
But, you would need to give me sufficient assurance that if you help me,
you would not divert the funds. My children and I have resolved to give
you 20% of the total sum. This is all my children and I have got to live
on. Please, I have reposed my confidence and trust in you and hope you
will not disappoint me, please see the news of my husband's death on this
website to make you understand and believe me. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/1968300.stm.

I look forward to your urgent response.
Thanks and God bless.
Mrs. Cecilia Aku.
