"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

DATE: 13th November 2004.

Dear Sir/Madam,

SUBJECT: REAL LOTTERY WINNING NOTIFICATION.

We are very happy to inform you that the result of our Cayman Islands Internet
Version Sweepstake Program, which was conducted on the 11th day of November
2004, has been released and that your email address attached to Serial no:
O1-153 with winning number 11 17 23 31 32 has consequently won you our lottery
program 3rd prize. You have now been approved to collect a total payment
sum of USD$750,000.00 (SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND US DOLLARS ONLY)
credited to file REF NO: CSP/5005-6009/04. This is from a total give out
cash prize of US$3,250,000.00(THREE MILLION, TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND
