"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Inquiry.

Hello,

I came to know about you in my search for a very reliable person to handle
a business transaction of high net value which requires maximum confidentiality
and it would be my pleasure doing business with you.

I am a very close confidant and 'Personal Assistant' to a former government
functionary who was attached to the security office of the Former Liberian
President, Charles Taylor. My boss has a large sum of money with him and
he has mandated me under an agreement to find a reliable person who can
help with a foreign account where the fund could be transferred for investment
and we are interested in going into a mutual investment business outside
Africa.

If you are capable of handling this venture, we would be ready to discuss
business with you on receipt of your reply. In this regard, would you please
give us further details on your business activities/profile. We would want
you to be our eyes and trustee for the investment and management of the
fund with a handsome reward.
