"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Read more about such scams here or in our 419 FAQ. Use the Scam-O-Matic to verify suspect emails.

Subject: From David (urgent)

Good day,

I am Dr David Imo the bills and exchange director at United
bank of Africa plc Abuja.(U.B.A) Please you should exercise
some little patience and read my mail.

I am writing this letter to solicit for support and
assistance from you to carry out this Business opportunity
in my department. There is an account opened in this bank and
the money is Lying in an inactive account awaiting
liquidation,The amount is the sum of USD $26 million
belonging to a foreign customer (Engr.Gambone Michael) who
was a petroleum/gas consultant/contactor with the Nigeria
National Petroleum coporation who happens to be deceased
during a business trip. He died with his wife(Deborah
Gambone) on board the Swissair Flight 111 , which crashed
into the Atlantic off Nova Scotia in september 2nd 1998. The
news of this crash was on the news which our efforts to
notified his relatives leads to no avail.

Ever since he died with his wife the bank have been
expecting his next of kin to come and claim these fund, the
NDIC could not liquidate the account because I have filled a
motion that a next of kin wrote in to the effect last week.
To this effect, they can not release the money unless
someone applies for it as next of kin, as indicated in our
banking guideline.

At this juncture i have decided to do business with you, to
this effect i solicit your assistance in applying as the
next of kin and beneficiary to Michael Gambone then the
money will be released to you. As i do not want this money
to go into the bank treasury as an unclaimed bill,or our
superiors taking the funds for their own personal use.

The banking law and guideline stipulates that if such
money(s) remains unclaimed for a period of up to seven
years(7yrs) the money will be transferred into the banks
treasury as an unclaimed bill. Our request for a foreigner
as next of kin is occasioned by the fact that the customer
was a foreigner. To effect the immediate transfer of the
fund to you as agreed, you must apply firstto the bank as
the next of kin to the decease, I will guide you on how
thiswould be done. The fund shall then be transferred to you
legally in accordance to all laid down procedures governing
closure of account and transfer of funds.

If you are willing to assist me, I have agree to give you
20% of USD $26 million united states Dollars,i will take
80%,i will also like to inform you that i will come over to
your country as soon as the transfer is concluded because i
