"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: SAVE MY JOB, BECOME OIL DEALER; HELP ME OUT

Dear Friend,

The Government in power at that time actually forced me to have
over-invoiced the Contract in question, but all am aking for is your
help at this crucial time; I want you to save my job for me, the
present government want to mar my years of service to this
Corporation. If you kindly bail me out of this present problem; as
the Accountant General to the Corporation I will put you through
into Oil business in the Economy and I will give you all the assistance
you demand from me. Please, read this proposal very well and find
a place in your heart to help me out.

I am Dr. Hassan Abiola, the Accountant to the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Contract NO:
NNPC/PED/1462/KADREF/02) was awarded to a Foreign
Firm SHENG YANG CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, JAPAN for the
maintenance of the Nigerian Petroleum-Chemical Complex located
at KADUNA, NIGERIA.

The contract amount was US$98,000,000.00 (NINETY EIGHT
MILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS ONLY) however, we
over-invoiced the cost of the contract to US$143,000,000.00
based on the direction of those who are in power that time.
The original contractor has been paid in full for the contract been
executed, the $45,000,000.00. (FORTY-FIVE MILLION
UNITED STATES DOLLARS ONLY) which is now left is the top up
sum.

The present Government is aware of the over-invoiced
amount and an External-Auditor has been given the power to Audit
the Contract-Account up-to-date. I am contacting you just
because I do not want to loose my Job because, I have served the
Corporation for more than 20-Years. Kindly save my job
first then, we will meet later and discuss business. By my position, if
you can do this help for me I will put you through on how to
become an Oil Dealer in Nigeria Oil market.

As Government Officials are not permitted to own or
operate a foreign bank account. Therefore I need a reliable person
who will provide us with a foreign banking account where to transfer
and deposit this sum $45,000,000.00 and this is the reason why I am
soliciting your assistance to provide us with an account to
deposit this money.

All modalities for the easy transfer of this fund is now in
place, the period of this transaction is only two weeks from the
day we receive your banking details. When this money gets to
your account, we will meet face to face for the sharing
arrangement. NOTE that 10% of our share will be invested in your
country. We propose to give you 30% of the US45,000,000.00, while
my partners and I will get 60% of the money. The balance of
10% will be allocated to cover all expenses been incurred by both
partners, be informed that this proposal is urgent and confidential
between us.
