"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Dear Sir,


I am Chief F.J.K Awoniyi, a director with Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) an Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) subsidiary company, at present I am the vice-chairman of Presidential Debt Reconciliation Committee in the presidency (office of the president).

We need a trust worthy and reliable foreign partner who could assist us to transfer the sum of $9,700,000.00 (Nine Million, Seven hundred thousand United States Dollars) only into overseas bank account as a subcontractor. The above sum was a reward from contract awarded by the above name company to late Edgar Edgar Hopkins of Hopkins Engineering Company, an American citizen. He was awarded the contract to refurbish and carry out turn-around maintenance in the refineries installation at Onne and Warri. The contract was duly executed and his payment was under way before he travel out of the country where he meet his untimely death during the devastation of hurricane Katrina that hit New Orleans on August. 29 2005.

There is no trace of his family history but we heard it by rumor that his parent settled and lives in Johannesburg in South Africa, and he was the only child of his both parent before the parent die in early and late 1970 respectively. Late Edgar Hopkins possessed an American international passport but has no record of family, he spent most of his lifetime working in West Africa.
