Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

I am Comrade Ferry Toure Bakonne of the Contracts Review Committee Abidjan here in Cote D'Ivoire Republic.

I hereby seek your consent in signing a contract for the supply of barlot boxes for
the forth-comming General elections on September / October this year. The boxes that are to be supplied are under my custody. They are barlot boxes that were not presented to the Government due to the last civil unrest in the country and which the contract documents could not be accounted for. Your job is to stand as the Foreign contractor which the contract is being re-awarded to.

This is the first phase of this contract and is budgetted for twenty million US Dollars
($20,000,000.00). You are expected to have 20% of this contract sum as profit. The payment would be made into your account. Every other formalities and details would be made known to you in due course.
