"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: ATTENTION LYNCH

Dear Friend,

My name is Barry Good, an external auditor with the EFG Bank Limited, Jersey – Channel Islands . I work as part of a larger team of auditors that cover the entire Channel Islands . On routine audit check in March this year, I discovered a roll-over deposit account that has been dormant for 10 years.

The total deposit up until it became dormant was 4.6 million British pounds sterlings(£4,600,000.00). On further investigation to unravel the reason for the dormancy of the account, I discovered that the investor, a Briton, died in October 1995; the exact time the account was last operated. I can confirm with certainty that the said investor died intestate and no next of kin to his estate has been found or has come forward all these years. Now banking regulation/ legislation here demand that I notify the fiscal authorities after a statutory period of 8 years (of dormancy), whence dormant accounts of this type are called in by the Jersey financial regulatory bodies. In effect, this fund automatically reverts to the state.

This fact underscores my reason for writing and proposing to you.I am of the settled conviction that using my insider leverage and working with you on the outside as the sole beneficiary to the deceased, we can secure the funds in the account for us instead of letting it pass as unclaimed funds into the coffers of the Government of Channel Islands.

This is especially workable as you bear the same LAST NAME with the investor. I also want to let you know that I got your contact via a concerted web search with the deceased’s surname. Please accept my heart felt apology for approaching you in this manner. This exactly is why I crave your participation and co-operation. My assurance to you is not based on my having experienced this before but on the saying that "it is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, rather it is because we do not dare that things are difficult". Secondly "daring ideas are like chess men moved forward, they may be beaten or initiate the strategy for winning a game.

I have in my custody all relevant documents (legal and banking) that will facilitate your claims as the sole beneficiary of the funds. If this offer is okay by you, we can put minds together and workout the modalities and our mutual benefits. However, I shall leave out the
finer details of this transaction till I receive an affirmation of your desire to participate.

If you can handle this with me, reach me now through this email account. In your reply mail, give your full names, address, date of birth, telephone and fax numbers.

I want you to rest assured that I am in control of the situation and as such, there would be no risk whatsoever if you elect to come on board. Needless to say, UTMOST CONFIDENTIALITY is of vital importance if we are to successfully reap the immense benefits of this transaction.

Kind regards,
Barry Good.
