"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

From: Mark Welling (Dechert LLP, London EC4V 4QQ).Dear Friend,I am Mark Welling, an attorney here in the UnitedKingdom. I am writing following an oppurtunity in myoffice that will be of immense benefit to both of us. I was the legal counsel to the late Mr. RudolfHaeussler, a German who unfortunately lost his life inthe 24 November 2001 Crossair aircraft crash of the97-seat Jumbolino Avero RJ-100 aircraft en route fromBerlin, Germany to Zurich, Switzerland, killing alsohis wife and only daughter. The aircraft crashed inpoor weather conditions as it approached Zurichairport. My late client was an influential and wealthybusinessman and he left behind a deposit ofUS$19,100,000.00 with a bank here in the UK, which isone of the main reasons it has been very important tolocate his next of kin.Since I got information about his death, I have beenexpecting his next of kin or relatives to come overand claim his money because the Bank cannot releasethe funds unless somebody applies for
it as next ofkin or relation to the deceased as indicated in thebanking guidelines. Unfortunately I learnt that hissupposed next of kin being his only daughter diedalong with him in the plane crash leaving nobody withthe knowledge of this fund behind for the claim. It istherefore upon this discovery that I now decided to dobusiness with you and release the money to you as thenext of kin or beneficiary of the funds for safekeeping and subsequent disbursement since nobody iscoming for it. I have reasoned very professionally and I feel it willbe legally proper to present you as the next of kin ofmy deceased client and the sole beneficiary of hisestate, so that you will be paid the funds left in hisbank account, hence I contacted you. I seek yourconsent to present you as the Next of Kin; the bankneeds only the facts as presented legally. The rest isbetween you and I and with my guide we can have themoney paid into your account. Once this is done, weshall both share the funds (60!
%
to me and 30% to you, while 10% should be for Taxes as your Government mayrequire). I shall assemble all the necessary LegalDocuments that will be used to back up our claim. All I require is your honest cooperationto enable us see this deal through. I guarantee thatthis will be executed under a legitimate arrangementthat will protect you from any Breach of law. Pleaseendeavor to observe utmost discretion in all mattersconcerning this issue. Should you be interested, please send me your telephone and fax numbers for easycommunication. Please write me via my emailaddress. In the event you are not interested, I sincerely askthat you disregard this email and tell no one aboutit. I am very careful not to truncate my legal careershould you mention this to someone else. I hope youcan be trusted in this regard.Your earliest response to this letter will beappreciated.Best regards,Mark Welling Esq.
