"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Hello..

Dear Friend,

It is imperative to understand the reason for contacting you. A national of your Country, an expatriate who was with a leading Oil and Gas Industry (Company Name Withheld) in a joint venture team on the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract here in Nigeria, was brutally murdered on faithful 23rd day of January 2007 by the aggrieved Niger-Delta Militants of the southern region of Nigeria.

Several enquiries has been made to locate any of the deceased extended relatives which proved unsuccessful. After these several unsuccessful attempts, your embassy approved for his burial at the state cemetery. The deceased entitlement/compensation as stipulated in the contract policy in partial fulfillment of the contract teams is yet to be claimed.

My proposition is for you to stand and make claim of the deceased benefit's so that the proceeds valued US$3.5 million dollars can be paid to you since you bear thesame last name, then you and I can share the money according to any agreed ratio. As the Human Resource Manager, I will furnish you with his data and other necessary information the moment we agree to transact. Your acceptance mail should include your telephone number to enable us discuss further. If this business proposition offends your moral values, do accept my apology.

I Expect to hear from you soon.

Regards,
Femi Douglas.
