"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Dear Friend

Dear Friend,

I am Mr.William Bako, the operation manager of Universal Trust Securities Togo. I have been in this company for about 15 years. Like you may wish to know, most of our Western and Asian customers deal on precious stones and African Arts(Artifacts). That is, sculptures, masks and decorative arts such as goldwork, jewelry, textiles, pottery and painting.

I hope you received my first mail. As I said there, Mr. Azrul Mustafa was a very good friend of mine. He was a gold dealer but he died three years ago in a car accident. He had a deposit of a consignment containing $2.4m with our company. I covered him to register the contents as Artifacts because I was the surpervisor in charge of inspection then.

I have tried all I can to get in touch with any of the late Mr.Azrul's family or relatives but all have proved to no avail. It is because of the perceived possibility of not going to be able to locate any member of the deceased's next of kin that led me to contact you. This is very urgent because according to our company's rules, the consignment will be the property of the company if no one comes for claim as soon as possible.

Right now our company is preparing to deliver some consignments to abroad very soon and I want to use my position to make sure that Mr.Azrul's own joined them. I have secretly collected all the information and proof to enable you make the claim without any risk the moment the consignment gets out of here. I assure you a 100% risk free involvement.

NB: I am going to take care of the expenses because this is the only opportunity I have to get this consignment out of here. The most important thing is that you must not let anyone know that I gave you the information of the consignment.

Please your urgent reply will be appreciated.

Thanks,

William Bako
