"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Dear Sir,
I apologize for any inconvenience this letter might cause you, considering the fact that you do not know me in person. I am Paul Williams, deputy general manager, (foreign operations) with ABSA Bank South Africa.
A client of ours, who bears the has last name with you, from your country and until his death was residing and doing business here in South Africa, he was also the CEO of an oil servicing company, he was shot dead in Lebanon in July 2006 during the fight between the Israeli army and the Hezbollah army, while he was on a business trip to Lebanon, before his death he has a company current account in our Bank and he left some reasonable amount of money in the account. The bank has made frantic efforts to locate any of his relatives to claim the Money, without any success.
Indecently I found you having the same name with him, I decided to find out if you are related to him, if yes kindly forward to me your phone and fax numbers to enable me send the full details to you. If no, I can present you to the Bank as his next of kin and get all the documents required to pay the money in your account since you have the same name with him. This is going to be for our mutual benefit. All the expenses will be personally taken care of.
