"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Message From Mr James Mike

Dear Freind,

Please do not mind my medium of contacting you on this business transaction of this magnitude. I am only doing this due to the urgency and privacy of the issue at hand.
My name is Mr James Mike; I live and work in Ghana as a banker in of one of the leading banks in Ghana. I will give you the name of my bank and other important information if I receive a positive reply from you. For security reasons I cannot disclose my full identity to you now until I am sure of your cooperation. I work in the operations dept where I serve as account officer to numerous customers. One of the customers whom I worked as his account officer was a wealthy America by name Mr James. who was an oil investor with Chevron here in Nigeria.

On the 17th of February 2005, my client, his wife, and their 2 children were involved in a car accident along Lagos-Ibadan expressway. All occupants of the vehicle unfortunately lost their lives. Since then I was issued an Order of Mandamus by the bank to locate my client?s relatives. I have made several inquiries to your embassy, and this has also proved unsuccessful. After these several unsuccessful attempts, I decided to trace his last name over the Internet, to locate any member of his family hence I contacted you.

I have contacted you to assist in repatriating the money and property left behind by my client before it is declared to the government as unclaimed and serviceable by the bank where these huge deposits of twenty five million and five hundred thousand dollor,($25.5 Million USD) were lodged.

Since I have been unsuccessful in locating the relatives over the years, I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of the deceased since you have the same last name so that the proceeds of this account valued at ($25.500.00 Million US Dollars) can be paid to you and then, you and I can share the money; 45% to me and 40% to you and 5% will be for the expenses that will be required for any cost and 10% we shall contribute to any charity organisation of our choice i guess it good will to humanity.

All I require is your honest co-operation to enable us seeing this deal through. I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law. I can send my international passport or stafff ID for you know and to see my face.

If this business proposition is ok by you and you are fully interested, please get back to with these following informations of yours:

1) Your Full Names: 2) Your Address and Telephone Number/Fax: 3) Your Occupation and Age: As soon as i hear from you, I will give you the details and procedures of the transaction. Thanks . Mr James Mike
