"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

From: Dr. Luke MartinsDepartment: Data base administrationSubject: Business Partnership My name is Dr. Luke Martins, I work for one of the Prime Banks in Cote d'Ivoire . I am contacting you in regards to a business that involves the transfer of huge sum of money from a dormant account. Though I know that a transaction of this magnitude will make anyone apprehensive and worried, but I am assuring you that all will be well at the end of the day. There is a pressing matter I would like to discuss with you. There is an outstanding sum of $52,000,000.00 (Fifty two million US dollars) that was left in our bank by a deceased French national since 2000. When we failed to contact relatives of the deceased, I removed the records of the deposit from our system to ensure that our auditors will not access and question the funds. A couple of my senior fellow colleagues are in on this project. We have been patiently bidding our time before transferring the funds out to be split among ourselves. Our greatest concern however, has been how to ascertain the integrity of whoever will receive the funds on our behalf because as the law demands, we have no right to receive the money in our own account here in Abidjan , Cote d'ivoire . We’ve already discussed with a successful US businessman (Dr. Smith Dante) who provided us with an account in the Cayman Islands , suffice to say we were uncomfortable with his assurances that will we shall receive our due share. Suddenly the imminent contact to you as a professional will provide to us with a potentialpossible means of safely transferring this funds out of Cote D’Ivoire to any account you provide for further disbursment . As a fellow professional colleague, we are immensely reassured that the risk of betrayal is highly reduced. My colleagues and I have agreed to ask you to come on board with us on this. The procedure is simple, if you accept; I shall transfer the $52M to our oveasea bank and they will transfer the total sum of $52.M which is the full amount of your inheritance. This is safe and foolproof; the Overseas bank will simply transfer all to your account. We have agreed to make you a modest offer of 35%. If you accept, all you need to do simply write back to me to inform me of your willingness and readiness and I will give you the steps to follow by making you the next of kin to the account (beneficairy) Upon receipt of the total funds in your account, we shall provide you with subsequent wiring instructions for our share and further celebration continues at any five star hotel in America or Paris . I would appreciate an urgent response in providing the below stated information to enable us start the paperwork in your favour. 1) Your full name and address2) Your direct telephone and fax number3) Your date of birth and place of birth Regards,Dr. Luke Martins
