"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

We hereby seek to your receipt that we all in the National UK Lottery congratulate you as you have been verified as a winner and you have been found worthy to collect the lump sum of £2,214,747 (Two Million, two hundred and fourteen thousand, seven hundred and forty-seven Pounds Sterling).

Your payment officer, Mr Brian Hollis was here and he presented the documents along with your clearance form which shows that you are the rightful winner with ticket number 56475600545188 which he also brought here. He was here with an affidavit on your behalf as well.

We are happy to inform you that after our verifications/investigations, the payment has been finally approved to be made in your name as the real winner.

You are advised to go to come to our payment office in London, United Kingdom to sign the {fund release order documents} to enable us wire the money into any bank account of your choice on or before Monday, 25th February 2008.

You are to come with these documents.

1) Your international passport for identification.
2) Two copies of your passport photograph.
3) Your bank account information in the case of a transfer.

Please indicate your Expected date of arrival to London so that i would furnish you with further instructions.

If you cannot make it to London, the documents can be couriered to you but at your expense of insuring the Fund Release Order document and your winning certificate before they are couriered to you. For this option, please send an email to (help@national-onlinelottery.org.uk.tt) telling the National Lottery that you cannot make it to London and that you would require the documents, official winning letter and winning certificates mailed to you at your expense.

(O) Payment to Prize Winners in Person and/or by Mail
(1) The Company reserves the right to make payment of Prizes to Players by cheque or other approved instrument. In this event, a Prize of £50,000 or less will be posted (at the Player’s risk and expense, in accordance with the Company’s procedures) to the Player’s address as stored in the Interactive System or as otherwise agreed between the Company and the Player.

The Company also reserves the right at its discretion to require a Player to attend at a Regional Centre to claim their Prize above £50,000. Whereby a winner to unable to make it to receive his prize, Documents and certificates are to be insured and securely couriered to the home address of the winner and delivered in person at his/her expense. The Lottery board shall not be held liable.
(2) The Player is responsible, where applicable, for claiming a Prize and the protection of the Identification Information that enables the payment of a Prize.
(3) The Company shall not be responsible or liable to any person claiming a Prize which has been paid to a person who assumed the identity of the holder of the relevant Account and who obtained sufficient information about them to impersonate the rightful holder of that Account.
(4) In the event that the Company, in its absolute discretion, believes that the Claimant is not lawfully entitled to payment of a Prize or that a Prize has been paid into a Player’s Account in circumstances where the Company decides, in accordance with Rule 5(D)(3) below, that the Claimed Play is invalid or the Interactive Instant Win Game is defective, it shall be entitled to withhold payment of the Prize or recover a Prize already paid into a Player’s Account (where applicable) pending the outcome of all appropriate checks and enquiries. Once the appropriate checks and enquiries have satisfied the Company, in its absolute discretion, that the Claimant is lawfully entitled to payment of the relevant Prize, it shall credit the amount of such Prize to the Player’s Account.
