"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: DONATION FROM WIDOW: SISTER, MAUREEN AKPAN

Dear in Christ

This is about a donation that I wish to make to help the disabled and the less privileged in your area. My name is Mrs MAUREEN AKPAN, am 60 yrs old from Saudi-Arabia. I was converted and become a born again Christian when I married my late husband Mr JERRY AKPAN, whom worked with one Saudi-Arabian construction Company here in Abidjan Cote I'divoire. He died last year 2007 after a brief illness. We were married for over twenty five years without a child. Back home in Saudi-Arabia, my parents disowned me for abandoning and ceasing to be a muslim. Knowing that the punishment is "Death" for abandoning muslim, I decided to spend the rest of my life with my late Christian husband.

When he was alive, he deposited the sum of $2.5 million american dollars in a bank here which he planned to establish his own business in future. He used my name as next of kin to deposit the fund, since we have no child to inherit the fund. Therefore, when he was dying, he  instructed me that I should make sure I donate the fund to the less privileged.

But my present condition of health could not allow me to carry out this instruction myself. I have been hospitalised in a private hospital here for the past six months now, following kidney and breast cancer problem that have been wanting to kill me. Recently, the doctor told me that I shall under-go a major heart operation, and my spirit is telling me I may not survive. So, I decided to act fast and obey my late husband's instruction and last wish. I want you to use this fund and help the disabled, motherless home babies, widows, HIV victims, churches and hospitals in your area.

Right now, am in the hospital awaiting the day the operation will be made, and I did not want to take any chances which is why I am contacting you. As a child of God, I want you to accept this assignment and assure me that you are going to use the money as I mentioned above.

Note: We took this decision because we don't have any child that will inherit the fund. I do not need any telephone communication in this transaction because of my health and my late husband's relatives that is always around me. I do not want them to know about this developement, as they are unbelievers. I do not wish my husband hard earned fund to be used or spent by UNGODLY people. With God all things are possible.

I trust and believe you are not going to betray the trust am reposing on you. Upon your reply, I will issue an authorithy letter that will prove you the present beneficiary of the fund. I want you and the church to always pray for me, because the Lord is my sherpherd. My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoever that wants to serve the Lord, must serve him in spirit and truth.
Always be prayerful all through your life. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I stated herein and give me your response with this email address:

May God bless you.
Sister MAUREEN AKPAN
