"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Read more about such scams here or in our 419 FAQ. Use the Scam-O-Matic to verify suspect emails.

Dear Sirs,

My name is Hani, and I am almost 24. I study (Information Technology). I am from the Middle East. I speak 8 languages.

I've been recently looking for a long-term relationship with some girl of my age, so, I thought that the best way to gain a girl's attention is by participating in some famous site for learning and exchanging languages, because that's almost my single strenght-point or -area! So, I registered in a site called: http://www.livemocha.com

Once registered, I started sending mails to different girls, whereas someother girls sent me ones after reading my profile, showing their interest in me!

Everything seemed normal, till one day, I received a message from some girl who uploaded a rose on her profile instead of her picture!

That message, as well as, the sequence of messages that followed it (so far) , are listed below in a chronological order.

So, I would highly appreciate it, if you help me determine wether I am being tricked or not!

With best regards,
Hani.

Hi Mercy,

First of all, I am awfully sorry for
my late response!

Secondly, I want u to know that I
felt really bad for u after I read ur
last message!!

Thirdly, I have to be honest with u
and tell u that I had a girlfriend, but 2 months ago, we seperated cuz she
suddenly changed to the worst: she started smoking and drinking, and she didn't
listen to me when I asked her to stop all that!!

However, Just 3 or 4 hours before I
read ur last
message, she came to me crying, apologizing, and begging to forgive her!!

So, I need u to understand that I
decided to give her one (last) chance. Consequently, this means that I have to
test her for a couple of weeks at least! And till then, lets stay friends if
that's ok with u.

With my best regards,

Hani.

Greetings My Lovely One,

           I am more than
happy in your reply to my mail this morning. How is your day? Mine is a little
bit hot over here in Dakar Senegal.however i am who wants to love and be loved
I have grown to understand that the road to a successful relationship is bumpy
but with honesty, love and dedication to the one I call mine, the journey will
not be hectic. I seek a long term relationship
with a family oriented person with the intentions of establishing a family
where children will grow to be happy in the future.

            To me age
differences is not a barrier what i just need from you is  total love and caring. please I know my letter here
will be a surprise to you but please Berra with me.in this camp we are
only allowed to go out only on Mondays and Fridays of the weeks It's just like
one staying in the prison and i hope by Gods grace i will come out here soon.I
don't have any brother, sister or relatives now whom i can go to, all my
relatives ran away in the middle of the war.

             the
only person i have now is Pastor Phillipson Njie! who is the pastor of the
(Christ for all Churches) here in the camp he has been very nice to me since i
came into this place but i am not living with him rather i am leaving in the
women's hostel because the camp have two hostels one for men the other for
women. The Pastors Tel number is (+221-77377-5031)
if you call and tell him that you want to speak with me he will send for me in
the woman's hostel..

           As a refugee here
i don't have any right or unprivileged to any thing be it money or whatever
because it is against the law of this country. Please listen to this, i have my
late father's statement of account and death
certificate here with me which i will send to you later, because when he was
alive he deposited some amount of money in
a  leading bank in Senegal here which he used my name as the next of kin,
the amount in question is! ($4.5  Million US Dollars).

So i don't know if you
can help me transfer this money to your account and from it you can send some
money for me to get my travelling documents and air ticket to come over to meet
with you. I kept this secret to people in the camp here the only person that
knows about it is the Pastor because he is like a father to me.

So in the light of above
I will like you to keep it to yourself and don't tell it to anyone because I am
afraid of loosing my life and the money if people get to know about it.
Remember i am giving you all this information due to the trust i deposed on
you. Meanwhile i will like you to let me know if you can help me, so that i
will give you the bank details contact. that will enable you find out the
possibility of transfer into your account. also call me like I said I have a lot
to tell you. Have a nice day and think about me. Awaiting to hear from you
soonest.

Yours in love, Miss Mercy.

Hello
Mercy,

Honestly, the most shocking thing about your last message is that you simply
decided to trust me blindly, although we barely know each other! But, how could
you be so sure that (for example) I am not a bad person who might simply take
all your money and run away!!!

Well, I know that you expected me to thank you for trusting me blindly, then
ask you for the (Account Details), and give you mine, but I simply think it's a
very tremendous responsibility which I might not be fully eligible to deal
with!! It's not only the complication and risk involved in it, but it's also
that I am currently pretty busy with my university exams and projects, as
well  as the work I am doing as a private tutor in 8 languages for many
people!!

After all, I feel so bad and sorry for you that I really wish I could help
you!! And by the way, I want you to know that even if firmly decided to help
you, it simply won't work! Because you said that the only (authorized) person
to claim the money or transfer it from that bank in Senegal is you...!!

Sincerely yours,

Hani.
