"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: [Spam] Hello

Good Day To You,

My name is Rev. Mofid Toma Marcus.I run a christian monastery called the Virgin Mary in Mosul, Iraq.

We are looking for a reputable individual to represent us to recover funds awarded to us and as well follow up with our charitable demands.

I understand that a proper agreement must be entered into by both parties. The suicide attacks and murders due to the sectarian conflict around my country has made life difficult in Iraq especially to us Christians.

This funds has been left for us since the begining of the insurgency and now that peace is gradually coming back to Iraq, it is now a good time to use the money to assist christians and the displaced for resettlement.

Your consideration of our request is highly anticipated, and we look forward to your prompt response.

God Bless,

Rev. Mofid Toma Marcus,
