"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "a security company " (this will cost you money - be careful with upfront payments to anyone you only know through email, especially if they promise you a lot of money. NEVER send money by Western Union or MoneyGram to people you do not know personally - NO EXCEPTIONS! Instant wire transfer services are not meant to be used with strangers because they offer no protection against fraud. That is precisely why the criminals want you send money that way. )
- "the consignment" (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)
- "trunk box" (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)
- "consignment " (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)
- "million united states dollars" (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)

- "keep it confidential" (scammers urge victims to keep the transaction secret because they don't want anyone to point out to them that it is a scam)
- "abidjan" (a location commonly mentioned in 419 scams)

I am Mrs Angel Gana Kigibe Joromah the wife of the late Dr. David Gana Kigibe Joromah of the blessed Memory. Prior to my Husband assassination, he was Director General National Gold and Diamond Mining Corporation of Sierra-Leone. Few days before my husband death, he instructed me to move out of Sierra-Leone and also to go in his underground strong room where the documents of money he has deposited in a security company in Abidjan, Cé¡e d'Ivoire in one trunk box as family valuables and treasures with the name of my son (Simon Kigibe) as the beneficiary. He told us the amount is US $ 8,000,000.00- (Eight million United States Dollars) and Some GOLD which is inside the box. We managed to escape to Abidjan the republic of Cé¡e d?Ivoire through the help of my father's friend who is a trawler.

Â As our travelling document was all sized. For your information, the security company did not know the real content of the box and we do not wish them to know until this money is move to your country. For your Information, the last time i met with the Director of the security company, he told me that they are in collaborated with diplomat if your business/ work does not permit you to come, but if you wish, you may instruct them to cargo the consignment down to your country through there diplomatic services. Since the death of my husband i have be down with sickness, but for know; i thank God for what he has done for me and my son.

Do not hesitate to send me e-mail immediately you receive this letter to enable us proceed in earnest towards retrieving the box.
