"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "death certificate" (this phrase is often used in inheritance scams such as next of kin or https://www.419scam.org/419-murdered-businessman.htm">orphan scams. )
- "hundred thousand united states dollars" (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)
- ",500,000" (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)
- "00,000.00" (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)
- "everet-fundway@hotmail.co.za" (this email address has been used in a known scam)
This email message is a next of kin scam.
This email lists mobile phone numbers. Use of such numbers is typical for scams because they allow criminals to conceal their true location. They can receive calls in an Internet cafe from where they send you emails, while pretending to be in some office.

Subject: Are you Dead or Still Alive ???

Dear Customer,

INHERITANCE OF ATM CARD WORTH THE SUM OF US$6.500.000.00.

CLAIM NOTIFICATION: On behalf of the entire staff and management of this
bank, this email is coming to you as a confirmation to know if you are
DEAD or still ALIVE.

We received a notification message and phone call from one MR. ARNOLD
HAROLD of Newark Valley NY 13811 USA, stating that you are DEAD and that
you have given him the right and authority to claim your funds.

Due to the fact that this man is not your legal next of kin, the board of
directors has instructed me to confirm if you are truly DEAD or ALIVE
because this man came with a DEATH CERTIFICATE which shows that you are
dead.

He stated you died in a CAR accident. He has been calling us regarding
this issue, but we cannot proceed with him until we confirm this by not
hearing from you after 3days.

If you are still alive, it is important for you to know that we have made
all arrangements for you to receive and confirm your funds without any
stress, and without any further delays.

All Legal documents backing up your funds has been prepared and the
documents will be sent to your residence address via DHL.

All we need to confirm now is you been DEAD Or still Alive. Because this
man's message brought shock to our minds and all the staff of this ATM Card Dept are planning to send a condolence gift/message to your family.

If you are alive, you are advised to respond to this email as soon as
possible so we can instruct the proper authorities to get hold of this man
the next time we will be hearing from him.

But if it happened we did not hear from you after 3days, then we say: MAY
YOUR SOUL REST IN PERFECT PEACE" YOUR JOY AND SUCCESS REMAINS OUR GOAL, May the peace of the Lord be with you wherever you may be now.

And if you are not dead, We have arranged your payment through our International ATM CARD PAYMENT CENTRE in Europe, America, Africa and Asia Pacific, this is part of an instruction/mandate passed by the Senate in respect to overseas contract payment and debt re-scheduling.

We will send you an International Swift ATM CARD ( Master Card ) which you will use to withdraw your money via in any ATM MACHINE in any part of the world, and the maximum daily withdrawal limit is Fifteen Thousand United States Dollars($15,000.00) valued sum at Two Million Five hundred thousand United States Dollars {$2,500,000.00}.

If you desire to receive your fund this way, Kindly re-confirm your details so as to facilitate the immediate release of your ATM CARD immediately.
