"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "you are advice to " (this email uses bad English)
- "fbi washington" (This name is often mentioned in money recovery scams (re-scam): the real FBI will not tell you to contact some email address. If you are in any doubt, contact an FBI field office via www.fbi.gov. )
- "kelly.chidi01@w.cn" (this email address has been used in a known scam)

Subject: Important Notice.......New Payment Code : (SBN/0028

RE: CLEARANCE OF OUTSTANDING DEPT FROM THE NATIONWIDE BANK.

It has come to our detect (Nationwide Bank) that you have not been able to follow up the entire obligatory STEPS for the safe release of your fund ($500,000 USD) which have been deposited in our bank for quit some months due to lack of communication.

We are bringing to your notice that the United State Government enforce that all dept must be cleared before the end of this year and currently we are in the second quarter payment, the bank states that the old payment code: to your inheritance contract funds has been changed and that the new payment code: to your contract funds will be (SBN/0028), take note of the new payment code: (SBN/0028), any e-mail you receive henceforth that does not have your payment code: (SBN/0028). Should be disregarded immediately and forwarded to us for immediate investigation.

We further inform you that all your personal information and banking details have been attached to your fund and kept pending at our Head Office Swindon Nationwide Building Society Nationwide House Pipers Way, due to copious beneficiary all over the world we have been trying our best to stop this nefarious activities.

According to our last press conference meeting held on the (18th November 2010) with some top officials from FBI Washington D.C regarding to this case, we further came into conclusion that all beneficiaries have been assigning to their various accountant officers who will be supplementary them in processing their fund without further hindrance, you are recommended to contact your accountant officer with the information underneath.
