"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "security keeping fee" (this will cost you money - be careful with upfront payments to anyone you only know through email, especially if they promise you a lot of money. NEVER send money by Western Union or MoneyGram to people you do not know personally - NO EXCEPTIONS! Instant wire transfer services are not meant to be used with strangers because they offer no protection against fraud. That is precisely why the criminals want you send money that way. )
- "western union" (this will cost you money - be careful with upfront payments to anyone you only know through email, especially if they promise you a lot of money. NEVER send money by Western Union or MoneyGram to people you do not know personally - NO EXCEPTIONS! - "the consignment" (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)

- "courier company" (Courier companies mentioned in 419 scams are always fake. They will have you send money to them, but won't deliver anything. )
- "remain blessed" (scammers in West Africa like to use religious phrases)

Western Union money transfer is completely untraceable and therefore is *not* safe to use with anyone you do not know personally. It is the preferred method of online criminals to collect money from their victims.
This email lists mobile phone numbers. Use of such numbers is typical for scams because they allow criminals to conceal their true location. They can receive calls in an Internet cafe from where they send you emails, while pretending to be in some office.

Attn: Beneficiary,

Compliment of the season to you my dear, I write to let you know that your first approved installmental payment of your awarded contract/inheritance fund of US$10,500,000,00 with the file registration number FMF/C679I00000BJ/2008 has finally been approved and released in your favour, but due to the problems we encountered in the last payment batch of 2009 from Western Union Money Transfer and Money Gram International Transfer, the Permanent Secretary of the federal Ministry of Finance has ordered that your fund be sent to you through our Federal Governmnet Approved Federal Delivery Express courier company (FedEx).

Prior to the status and order of the delivery, the US$10.5M was cashed and packaged into a metallic consignment box and was padlocked, for security reasons, the key was not given to FedEX director and the consignment box was registered as a box of photographic materials in your favour, upon this alert, you must not let either the Fedex delivery agent nor the fedex director to the know that the box contains cash upon contact, the keys to the box shall be sent to you subsequently as soon as the box has been delivered by the fedex delivery agent.

As for our agreement with the FedEx Courier Company they promised that your consignment will leave this Country as soon s you contact them to reconfirm your currect mailing address to avoid delivery error in transit.So you are upon this notification advised to make a swift contact with the below person and reconfirm your current mailing addres for the immediate airlifting of your consignment box.

Please make sure you send this needed information to the Director general of FedEx Courier Company Dr.PASCAL ABANIDIEGWU with the above email address given to you.Note that the cosignment box was place under their intense security department for security reasons.
Note:The FedEx Courier Company don't know the contents of the Box. I registered it as a BOX of an Africa cloths. They don't know it contents money. this is to avoid them delaying with the BOX. don't let them know that money is in that Box.
