"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Greetings From Mr Gordon Watson

From the Desk of Contract Payment Committee
Anglo Gold Corporation
South Africa

Dear Sir,

I wish to present this business deal proposal to you. However i am sorry for the inconveniences my letter might have caused you. However I am Mr. Gordon Watson. Director Contract Payment Committee in Anglo Gold Corporation. I got your contact address in the course of my search for a reliable person with whom to handle very confidential business deal transactions which involve the transfer of fund valued Fifteen Million United State Dollars Only ($15M) to a safe foreign account for investment and personal used.

The fund in question is not connected with arms, drugs or money laundering. It is the product of over invoice masterminded by the officials involved; this has been drafted to represent the final payment for a contract that has been executed to this corporation on 2010/2011 batch category. The fund is now floating in the suspense account of the Financial Institution which I want to transfer out of the country into a reliable foreign account for our personal use.  As civil servant, we are not allowed by the law of South Africa to operate a foreign bank account; therefore it becomes necessary to look for foreign company/investors with the capability to act/stand as the original contractor that did the contract in Anglo Gold Corporation. It is good thing that the president has endorse the resolution passed by the senate that all outstanding debts owed to both local and foreign contractors should be paid. So we decided to seize this opportunity to purport
you as one of the contractors to be paid. In my last meeting with the Officials involved, it was unanimously agreed that 30% of the total sum will be given to you, 60% will be for us while 10% will be use to reimburse the expenses that will be incurred in the processing of this transfer.

Please note that this transaction is strictly confidential as we have concluded every arrangement to protect the interest of everyone involved, Likewise all modalities for the successful transfer of this fund have been worked out with Ministry of finance to facilitate the remittance of this fund to your designated account within 7 working days after your claim has been approved by the Ministry of Mining and Contract payment Committee of Anglo Gold Corporation. Note also that the particular nature of your business is irrelevant to this transaction and this transaction is expected to be concluded within 14 bank working days since all local contact and arrangement have been properly perfected for a smooth and successful conclusion of this transaction.

If you are interested in this proposal kindly send your letter of acceptance along with your direct Telephone and Fax number but if you cannot in any reason handle this transaction, I will be grateful if you can introduce it to a reliable and trust worthy person in which your interest will be properly taken care off.  For further details about this transaction will be discussed in the subsequent correspondence.

Yours Faithfully,

Mr. Gordon Watson
Director Contract Payment Committee
Anglo Gold Corporation
