"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

An email address listed inside this email has been used in a known fraud before.
This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "a security company " (this will cost you money - be careful with upfront payments to anyone you only know through email, especially if they promise you a lot of money. NEVER send money by Western Union or MoneyGram to people you do not know personally - NO EXCEPTIONS! Instant wire transfer services are not meant to be used with strangers because they offer no protection against fraud. That is precisely why the criminals want you send money that way. )

- "monrovia" (a location commonly mentioned in 419 scams)
- "liberia" (a location commonly mentioned in 419 scams)
- "god-fearing " (scammers in West Africa like to use religious phrases)
- "calvary greetings" (scammers in West Africa like to use religious phrases)
- "remain blessed" (scammers in West Africa like to use religious phrases)
This email message is a next of kin scam.
This email lists mobile phone numbers. Use of such numbers is typical for scams because they allow criminals to conceal their true location. They can receive calls in an Internet cafe from where they send you emails, while pretending to be in some office.

This email lists free webmail addresses. Use of such addresses is typical for scams. Lotteries, banks and any but the smallest of companies do not normally use such addresses. Criminals use them to anonymously send and receive email at Internet cafes.

Calvary Greetings to you in the name of our lord Jesus Christ Let me start by introducing myself to you, I am Mrs. Hawa Samah Adinkrah, 79 years old and a business woman that deals on diamonds and owns Cool Diamonds L.L.C. located in Dubai, a large diamond shop in United Arab Emirates. I am from Liberia married to Col. John Mensah Adinkrah , from Ghana a retired navy officer and an international car merchant who deals on importation and exportation of various expensive cars. On Jul 11, 2012 when a tragic incident occurred in Liberia, my husband and my only son died in civil war here in Liberia, when we came for vacation.

The worst of it is that almost all my family members were involved in this sorrowful mass death. My husband and I operated a Joint Account and made a fixed deposit of (total sum of GBP 5,000,000.00 Million Pounds) deposited in a security company here in Africa, since there is war in my home country Liberia, the fund is now in the custody of United Nations vault, AS United nations is the organization controlling the Liberia country for peace keeping and to safe poor lives here from war crisis.

As I am writing to you now i am on the Hospital bed with eyes full of tears and heart fullâ€™s of pains, I have being admitted because of the several injury that has affected every part of my body and hypertension. My condition now is very critical and according to the surgeon doctor thatâ€™s treating me, he apprised me that I had only few weeks to live on earth because the damages on the several parts of my body, because I was not rescued immediately the incident took place.

Having known my condition, I decided to donate this joint deposited fund of my late husband and myself to an organization or devoted God-fearing person, sincere and trustworthy individual that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein. I want this organization or individual to use this money in all sincerity to fund orphanages, widows, less privileged and also propagating the gospel & religion and to ensure that the society upholds.
