"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

An email address listed inside this email has been used in a known fraud before.
This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "a security company " (this will cost you money - be careful with upfront payments to anyone you only know through email, especially if they promise you a lot of money. NEVER send money by Western Union or MoneyGram to people you do not know personally - NO EXCEPTIONS! Instant wire transfer services are not meant to be used with strangers because they offer no protection against fraud. That is precisely why the criminals want you send money that way. )
- "million dollars" (they want you to be blinded by the prospect of quick money, but the only money that ever changes hands in 419 scams is from you to the criminals)
- "power of attorney" (with your bank details and a power of attorney form criminals sometimes empty bank accounts)
- "dormant account" (Banks mentioned in 419 scams are always fake (real banks don't communicate using mobile phones or free webmail addresses))
This email message is a next of kin scam.
Barristers (lawyers) mentioned in 419 scams are always fake.
This email lists free webmail addresses. Use of such addresses is typical for scams. Lotteries, banks and any but the smallest of companies do not normally use such addresses. Criminals use them to anonymously send and receive email at Internet cafes.

too good and i can barely pay my bills.I am soliciting on you to
assist me in the recovery of 1000 Killo of alluvial gold bar and the
sum of 20 Million Dollars,deposited in our security company.

I have been working with a security company for 7 years now and i used
to be friends with Late Arnel Elnar from Jose Panganiban,
CamNorte,Philippine.Late Arnel Elnar owns a JP mining firm in CamNorte
Norte and a gold mining site at Takwa community in the gold region
here in Ghana.It was painful to hear about his death,He was killed on
his way back from a friends party with his female companion who
sustained several injuries.

During my annual auditing for 2015/16,i had discovered his safe
Account no KH26844AB containing 1000 Killo of alluvial gold bar and
the sum of 20 Million Dollars,is currently dormant,Since 2012 no body
has showed up.Because of our high security network here in our
Security company,i cannot remove his safe box to a secured location
where it can be opened.i have discussed with our secretary and she has
agreed to change the file to edit any foreigners name to correspond as
next of kin.Therefore i need the assistance of a foreigner who can
help us recover this funds.i have made all arrangements and my lawyer
can arrange all necessary documents that will correspond with our
records.

The conditions of our business are as follows:

(1)You will come physically and will assist us reactivate the dormant
account and also to see the gold and to conduct your own Assay test on
the Alluvial gold bar,upon finalization we can sign the relevant
documentations for the release/shipment of the alluvial gold and cash.

(2)Alternatively,if you cannot travel,i can make arrangement for an
attorney here that can represent you with full power of attorney
signed by you,to assist us in your name to recover these items.then we
can send your own share to you.

I am willing to share with you 30% and 20% will go for the
secretary,while my self and my lawyer will have the remaining 50%.
