"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: GREETINGS FROM THE FINANCE MINISTER, MALUSI GIGABA.

Greetings,

This is to inform you that as I was going through some stacked payment file in my office, I came across a file containing information about your outstanding fund, R126,000,000.00 which has been in the escrow account account of the department of National Treasury for over a year.

The investigation I carried out on why your fund has not been released to you revealed that you could not meet up with the fee requested from you by the former finance minister(my predecessor), Mr. Pravin Gordhan.

As part of my determination/promise to make things and the economy easier for South Africans on assumption of office as the finance minister, I have decided to cut down the fee to an affordable level for you to ensure that you receive your fund without spending much.

For the processing of your fund release, you are required to confirm the following details:

1, NAME AND CURRENT ADDRESS.
2, AGE AND CURRENT JOB.
3, TELEPHONE(MOBILE) NUMBER.
4, PRIVATE EMAIL ADDRESS IF ANY.

Awaiting your urgent response.

Yours Faithfully.

Malusi Gigaba
Minister of Finance,
Republic of South Africa.
Fax: 086 265 0311.
