"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Attention Dear

Greetings To You.

Seeing your surname gives me the courage and confidence to connect with you and hoping that you will be reliable and honest for this important confidential transaction deal which I have for you, I am Mr. Larry Moore, winning & Payment verification officer with The Ithuba National Lottery Board(South Africa), Sometime in July 2017, MR JAMES MORGAN a citizen of your country residing here in South Africa won a whopping R25.700,000.00 (Twenty-Five Million, Seven Hundred Thousand South African Rands), in equivalent to USD2.120,000.00 (Two Million, One hundred and Twenty Thousand United State Dollars) after buying a PowerBall PLUS lottery ticket, his won amount was deposited with our Authorized Paying Bank for further payments to him, unfortunately we did not receive any notification of claim from him, not knowing to our lottery processing officers that he passed away few days after buying the PowerBall PLUS lottery ticket.

On discovery about his passing away during my routine verification as the officer in charge i notified our paying bank immediately but was given a memorandum with a mandate to search for Mr. James Morgan's close relative as to enable them come forward to claim his winning amount to avoid it being forfeited by January 2019, in accordance with our terms and conditions, which stated that any winnings not claimed before or after the period of one calendar year will be forfeited and be retained by the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund, meaning Winners have one year to claim their winnings.

Furthermore; all effort to locate any of decease relative or family members has proven unfruitful, I have reason very professional and I can use a legal means to present a next of kin of my deceased client, i hereby request your assistance to stand as a relative / family member to Mr. James Morgan since you are from the same country to enable the bank release his fund in your favor, This is a deal and i am compelled to proceed with it because of my belief on a saying that says "Opportunity Comes But Ones", The bank management is ready to approve payment to anyone from your country who has the correct PowerBall PLUS lottery ticket Numbers of Mr. James Morgan which I will provide to you only If you agree to partner me in this deal, you will be entitled to 40% of the funds while i take %60, all I require is your honest cooperation and Trust to enable us see this transaction to a success, by the virtue of my position i have worked out the perfect modality on how to claim the said funds and it is 100% risk free.

I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of law. I will not fail to bring to your notice that this proposal is hitch-free and that you should not entertain any fears as the required arrangements have been made for the completion of this transfer.
