"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Some comments by the Scam-O-Matic about the following email:

This email uses a separate reply address that is different from the sender address. Spammers use this to get replies even when the original spam sending accounts have been shut down. Also, sometimes the sender addresses are legitimate looking but fake and only the reply address is actually an email account controlled by the scammers.
The following phrases in this message should put you on alert:
- "urgent assistance" (scammers rush victims so they don't have time to think properly)
- "power of attorney" (with your bank details and a power of attorney form criminals sometimes empty bank accounts)

My name is Mrs. Yulia Dymtro, the wife to one of the prominent Ukraine politician, My husband and my only child were killed by the Russian Military while we were trying to leave Ukraine through Kiev, I was rescued alive but I am trapped back here in Oblast of Lviv where I am receiving treatments, I just need an urgent assistance from you, My husband as a prominent politician and a businessman have some funds in million euro in a turkish Financi bank, It belongs to my late husband and I am the next of kin, we were saving the funds for his election in 2024. It is true that I do not know you, but I have confidence that you will not disappoint me. I offer to pay you %10 of the funds and the rest of the funds you will invest for me in your company's production/business because when I recover, I would want to be exporting your products. I wish that you contact the Turkish Financi bank to receive the funds for me as my investment trustee, they will release the funds to you with a power of attorney from me. I will send you the power of attorney to receive the funds and once the Turkish Financi bank sees my power of attorney they will transfer the funds to you unconditionally.
