"419" Scam – Advance Fee / Fake Lottery Scam

The so-called "419" scam is a type of fraud dominated by criminals from Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Victims of the scam are promised a large amount of money, such as a lottery prize, inheritance, money sitting in some bank account, etc.

Victims never receive this non-existent fortune but are tricked into sending their money to the criminals, who remain anonymous. They hide their real identity and location by using fake names and fake postal addresses as well as communicating via anonymous free email accounts and mobile phones.

Keep in mind that scammers DO NOT use their real names when defrauding people.
The criminals either abuse names of real people or companies or invent names or addresses.
Any real people or companies mentioned below have NO CONNECTION to the scammers!

Subject: Salutations

As an American serving in the US Army, I am stationed in Ukraine.

If you are willing to be honest with me and put your trust in me to take care of this, I am writing to you to establish a relationship.

I found one parcel with US money in one of the Ukrainian bases just a few days ago. A financial and security firm in Ukraine has received that package.

Please help me get the funds from the package before I come over to hang out with you. Please, since I'm still in the service, I want this to be between us.

Since nothing in our life functions without trust and honesty, we should both demonstrate our sincerity by being trustworthy and honest with ourselves.

I will get back to you as soon as possible with more information, and I look forward to your swift response so that we may proceed.

Sincerely,
Monica Moore, CPT
